Prerequisite for Thesis and Dissertation Submission

For students who have successfully completed or are expected to complete the master’s or doctorate course, it is required to pass the comprehensive examination in order to be eligible for submitting their theses or dissertations.

(Those who are in the non-thesis track of master’s course are irrelevant to this requirement.)

Steps for Thesis and Dissertation Submission

When admitted to the university, the research plan and thesis or dissertation proposal must be submitted.
step 02.
Application for Thesis/Dissertation Advisor must be submitted in the following semester.
  • Master’s program : the 3rd semester
  • Doctorate program : the 4th semester
step 03.
The comprehensive examination (course exam and foreign language test) takes place in the following semester. Students must pass the examination within the three times.
  • Master’s program : the 3rd semester or later
  • Doctorate program : the 4th semester or later
step 04.
Application for Evaluation of Thesis/Dissertation must be submitted together with the evaluation fee.
step 05.
When a student only completes the course by fulfilling credits and minimum GPA requirements but fails to pass the thesis/dissertation examination, he or she must apply for research registration. Please see “Research Registration” as below.

Research Registration

Who can apply
A candidate for the master’s degree
  • who has completed the course and submitted Application for Evaluation of Thesis/Dissertation (only for thesis track)
A candidate for the doctoral degree
  • who has completed the course but failed to pass the dissertation examination within the final semester
  • or who plans to submit his or her dissertation after the course completion
The above-mentioned student must submit the first draft of thesis/dissertation approved by a faculty advisor and Application for Research Registration, and make a payment for the registration.
Research registration fee : 10% of the regular tuition fee
Number of semesters in which a candidate can register
A candidate for the master’s degree can register up to four semesters. If exceeding this period, the submission for thesis will be no longer accepted.
A candidate for the doctorate degree can register up to eight semesters. If exceeding this period, the submission for dissertation will be no longer accepted.
※ If there is no progress in thesis or dissertation for two semesters during the period of research registration, a candidate will be excluded from the registration and no longer eligible to submit thesis or dissertation.
